News

  • DEC 1st - NYC Trip.  We will be leaving from the church at 8:00am and returning about 10:00pm.  You will be responsible for your own meals while there.  Next troop meeting an itinerary will need to be made of what we would like to see and do. I would like to minimize how long we spend in Time Square and maybe get over to the Rockefeller center area and see some other sites.  Permission slips will be out at the next troop meeting.  - Phil Morrissey is chairing this event.

Scorpions trip to Putnam Pond Photos

GeoCaching or LetterBoxing @ Putnam Pond

Assist. Scoutmaster John has found that there are several Geocaches at Putnam Pond along with a Letterbox.  The difference is letterboxing requires only following written instructions, rhymes or visual identification directions, while GeoCaching requires the use of a GPS.  I have included the letterbox clues for Putnam Pond and if you would like you can download the caching information and bring it with you.  Time permitting we can attempt to do one or both.

Clues for the Putnam Pond Letterbox:

To the water's edge, Putnam Pond before you lies.
Sun sparkles on the water, and canoes can be seen in the distance, silently gliding by.
Walk southeast to the dam that creates the lake.
Trip, Trap, Trot across the bridge, along the water's edge you go.
A birch to your right, a triple plus two to your left.
A benchmark shines atop a rocky outcrop.
A loon you may hear, or if lucky, see.
A path to where water venturers launch their craft.
Not too far down the path.
A dead birch left, a boulder, too.
At it's base, a box for you!

I will be collecting the money for the camping trip on Monday the 16th.  Permission Slips are here.

May 25th-27th

Patrol will be camping at Putnam Pond State Camp Ground in the Adirondacks.  A permission slip will be going out next week.  We will be departing at 5:00pm on Friday and returning around 3pm to the church.  We need to reach the park before 9:00pm.  The cost for the trip will be $10.00 to cover the registration fee and food.  The park has showers, swimming and fishing.  We will be doing a day long hike from camp to Clear Pond.  I will need a head count by this weekend (3/24 to determine how many sites we need.

Scorpion Patrol Trip to NYC

Well on December 9th the Scorpions invaded the Big Apple.  Left Troy around 7:00am and arrived at Chelsea Pier at 9:15.  Mr. Terry should tryout for NASCAR, Mr. Cubit barely could keep up in that fine Mini-Van.  We had 9 Boy Scouts and 1 Cub Scout attend and it was a blast.  We visited the WTC site, Greenwich Village, Rockefeller Center and we even dared to venture into the infamous Time Square.  Of course with 2 million people going through Time Square a day would you believe that we ran into another family from our scout family, wow.  What a surprise.  About 7:00pm we hit the road officially and were back home at 9:30pm.  Check out some of the photos from our trip here!
